25.04.2026 · Gorski Kotar

On the eighteenth day of October ’25, we returned to Gorski Kotar.

To many, Gorski Kotar is a quiet, forested region in Croatia. To us, it is something more. Exactly five years earlier, on that same date, Daniel and I came here for our very first trip together. Somewhere between the trees and the mountain air, we had our first kiss.

Five years later, we came back — this time to photograph Irena and Sebastijan’s wedding.

Autumn had painted everything in deep gold and burnt orange. The forest looked cinematic, almost unreal in the sunlight. It was one of those perfectly clear fall days — crisp air, long shadows, leaves slowly falling around us.

There was a moment in front of the church I will never forget.

Irena stood outside, waiting. Then her mother approached to walk her down the aisle. When they embraced, something inside me broke open. The kind of hug that holds childhood, gratitude, pride and letting go — all at once. I felt my heart shatter into a million pieces behind the camera. I missed my mom so much.

People don’t see that part.

They don’t see me wiping tears quickly, hiding behind a long lens so no one notices. They see the photos later — steady, composed. But in those seconds, it is almost too much. So heavy and so beautiful at the same time.

After the ceremony, another surprise waited outside the church — a carriage pulled by two horses. Just like in an old film. They stepped inside, smiling, while guests cheered around them, and rode through the autumn landscape toward the venue where the wedding party would unfold.

And what a party it was.

Somewhere deep in the forest, under a sky scattered with a million stars, laughter echoed between the trees. It was joyful, relaxed, wildly danced and completely sincere. No pretence. No stiffness. Just people celebrating love in the middle of nature.

On the eighteenth day of October ’25, we stood once again in the place where our own story quietly began — this time documenting someone else’s.

And I know this wedding will stay in our hearts for a very long time. 🤍
